Students at the ADSE Enblement Session in Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology

The Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology (NEUST), the Philippines, headed by their President, Dr Feliciana P. Jacoba was recognised as a partner institution of the ASEAN Foundation in the ASEAN Data Science Explorer and supporting institutes of higher learning. Since last month, the university conducts a series of ASEAN Data Science Explorer enablement sessions for trainers, faculty and students.

Last April 8, 2019, Monday, thirty (30) faculty members from different colleges and campuses of the University underwent ASEAN Data Science Explorer (ADSE) Enable Session at President’s Conference Room, NEUST - Sumacab Campus. Through the guidance of Mr Alain Daniel Amarante from SAP Philippines and Ms Iris Yeo from SAP Singapore, they said faculty members learned about the basic skills in data science utilizing the SAP Cloud Software. Some of the basic skills that were learned by the teachers were: how to navigate the features of SAP Cloud Software; and how to make models from existing data.

Furthermore, on 8 May 2019, another ADSE enablement session was conducted, and it was being participated by 200 students coming from different colleges of the University. In fact, ADSE 2018 1st Runner-up who were the Philippines representatives in last year’s competition, Mr. Jade Hizon and Mr. John Rusty Pereña together with their mentors Dr. Nancy Joy M. Mangansat at Dr. Jo Neil T. Peria gave an informative orientation on ASEAN Data Science Explorer which includes the procedure on how to join: registration, submission of storyboards, notice of finalists until the competition proper. Moreover, they inspired the participants about how the ASEAN Data Science Explorers changed their lives and how their professional career was impacted by the competition and they humbly shared their victorious ADSE journey. This activity was also steered by the faculty trained last April 8.

Truly, these fruitful endeavours became possible through the collaborative efforts of NEUST, ASEAN Foundation, and SAP, especially it was personally spearheaded thru the effort of the Training Director of NEUST, Dr Jo Neil T. Peria.
