The Internship was A Steep Learning Curve

Hi there! I am Friska Natalia, 24, from Indonesia.

I am a graduate of Universitas Kristen Indonesia, majoring in International Relation. When I was in my final year of study, I decided to take an internship with ASEAN Foundation as a requirement to complete my final assignment. The decision has proved to be an important feature in my life.

I was responsible to preparing and implementing several events, such as ASEAN Forum Meeting with UNDP PGSP, ASEAN Foundation’s Seminar on Future Young Entrepreneurs, NGO Connection Day with Microsoft and also Asia-Pacific Development Summit with Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. During the internship, I was allowed to interact with high level officials, such as ambassadors and international donors. I had an opportunity to build network and establish good relationship with them. All colleagues were kind and gave the interns -- including me -- a chance to develop our competencies. Time management, mutual respect, setting up goals and achieving them are the most important things that I gained during my tenure. I believe the experience at the ASEAN Foundation has shaped me to be who I am today.

I haven’t known yet the better way to thank Ms. Prima, Mr. Niko and also Ms. Uni as my mentors in Program Department, especially to Ms. Prima as my direct supervisor who had given me this opportunity in the hope that I could gain unlimited knowledge and priceless experiences.

I have been very blessed to have the internship experience with the ASEAN Foundation as it has provided me with network, knowledge and skills. I am pleased to recommend ASEAN Foundation as a steep learning curve on high level management in NGO and development sector. The ASEAN Foundation can also assist university students in building their skills and capacity preparing them to be competitive job candidates in the future.

Currently, I am working with one of the U.S agency project for International Development.

Thank you ASEAN Foundation!
