ASEAN Foundation and the Indonesia Coordinating Investment Board
Executive Director of ASEAN Foundation, Dr. Makarim Wibisono accompanied by Ms. Shinta Kamdani from the Indonesian Employers Association (APINDO) and the organizer of the ASEAN Latin America Business Forum (ALBF) 2012 received by H. E. Dr. Chatib Basri, Chairman of Indonesia Coordinating Investment Board (BKPM) in his office on July 6, 2012. At that opportunity, the status of investment between ASEAN and Latin America was discussed.
H. E. Dr. Chatib Basri confirmed his participation in the plenary session 2 titled "The Future of Investing in Emerging Economies." It was observed that Latin American and the Caribbean countries are expected to grow by 4.1 per cent in 2012, ASEAN member states by 7.2 per cent, and Indonesia by 6.7 per cent. However, Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) by and between Latin American and ASEAN countries has been quite low compared to the total flows of FDI into the two regions.
Indonesia Coordinating Investment Board, according to Dr. Basri, attachs great importance to the ALBF 2012. He will allocate time on July 9, 2012 to have one to one meeting with the potential investors from Latin America. In this context, BKPM will have a special booth providing investment promotion materials in Shangri-La Hotel.
