Three decades after ASEAN was established, ASEAN leaders recognized that: there remained inadequate shared prosperity, ASEAN awareness and contact among people of ASEAN. It was of this concern that ASEAN leaders established ASEAN Foundation during ASEAN’s 30th Anniversary Summit in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia on 15 December 1997, ASEAN Foundation is an organisation from and for the people of ASEAN. The Foundation exists because of one vision: to build a cohesive and prosperous ASEAN Community. As an ASEAN’s body, the Foundation is tasked to support ASEAN mainly in promoting awareness, identity, interaction and development of the people of ASEAN. In the year of 2016, the ASEAN Foundation established Communications and Marketing division to ensure continuous promotion of ASEAN as the people centred community. To increase ASEAN Foundation visibility especially among the ASEAN youth, we have launched ASEAN Foundation social media in various platforms from Facebook to LinkedIn. To date, ASEAN Foundation social media followers has been growing significantly as well as the number of engagements.
Aside from building an online presence of ASEAN Foundation, the Communications and Marketing is also promoting ASEAN Foundation visibility through various events, publications and multimedia channel. A strong and consistent branding helped ASEAN Foundation establishing its presence among the media, dialogue partners and stakeholders.
The Foundation’s role in supporting the ASEAN Community Building is evident through one of the Foundation’s flagship programmes “ASEAN Farmers’ Organisations Support Programme (AFOSP).” It is a European Union (EU) and International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) grant for a multi-stakeholder project which aims to improve the livelihoods and food security situation of smallholder farmers and rural producers in ASEAN countries. The role of the ASEAN Foundation in AFOSP focuses on promoting policy dialogues and interactions between farmers and rural organisations and relevant ASEAN bodies.
Meanwhile, under our thematic area of education, the ASEAN Foundation initiated the ASEAN Foundation Model ASEAN Meeting (AFMAM) to introduce ASEAN and how it works to youth. In the Model ASEAN Meeting programme, it is not only introducing ASEAN but improving the skills of ASEAN youth to negotiate and to lobby which are main skills in diplomacy.
To support all of ASEAN Foundation initiatives, an innovative and passionate communication intern are needed. As young people in ASEAN are one of the main target audience of ASEAN Foundation, we will need a communication intern who understands the young generation’s insights and speaks their language. Well-executed communications strategy of ASEAN Foundation is essential to ensure high visibility of the initiatives as well as to convey its success stories better to various stakeholders and broader audience.
DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
Under direct supervision of Communications & Marketing Manager, the Communication Intern will do this following:
- Write, produce and disseminate ASEAN Foundation (AF) success stories to all AF social media platforms.
- Update the media database (printed, online, television and radio) across ASEAN.
- Develop ideas to engage AF social media followers via interactive games and quizzes.
- Update photo documentation database of AF initiatives.
Education and Experience:
- An undergraduate student from any field or major in any ASEAN tertiary institution.
- Experience working collaboratively in campus/faculty and volunteering organization.
Qualifications and Technical Skill:
- Fluent in English both for writing and speaking.
- Good analytical skills and have basic knowledge and understanding about ASEAN (socio-economic, people, culture, innovation & technology)
- Basic skills in video editing, event management and coordination would be a plus.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Creative and innovative.
- A team player yet an independent person who’s able to work under minimum supervision.
Position open until filled, requires 3 – 6 month commitment
Semester II: July to December 2018
The internship is voluntary and unpaid.
