70 undergraduate students and 10 university academic members were selected from 30 different universities across ASEAN to participate in the five-day programme of the Second ASEAN Foundation Model ASEAN Meeting 2016 (2nd AFMAM 2016). They went through a vigorous selection process involving representatives from the Lao Permanent Mission to ASEAN, the ASEAN Secretariat as well as the ASEAN Foundation. This year, the Model ASEAN Meeting will take place at the International Cooperation and Training Center (ICTC) in Vientiane, Lao DPR from 2 – 6 October 2016.
These selected delegates from the ten ASEAN Member States will get a rare opportunity to learn how the ASEAN come to decisions by role-playing ASEAN high level officials at ASEAN meetings. These groups of young people will be exposed to lectures on ASEAN and ASEAN structure, protocols, and how the ASEAN Member States address issues from a cross-sectoral and cross-pillar perspective. Distinguished speakers from the ASEAN Secretariat, the Institute of Foreign Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lao PDR, sectoral bodies from ASEAN and the ASEAN Foundation will share their expertise and knowledge to the delegates.
The 2nd AFMAM 2016 is an initiative of the ASEAN Foundation supported by the ASEAN – U. S. PROGRESS, a joint project of the Government of the United States and ASEAN. The ASEAN Foundation is pleased to partner again with the Maybank Foundation in Malaysia on this activity. In addition, the ASEAN Foundation has garnered support from KBZ Bank, part of the KBZ Group of Companies in Myanmar.
