ASEAN Leaders Programme

The ASEAN Foundation is delighted to partner with Common Purpose, an international leadership development organisation to launch the ASEAN Leaders programme in 2016. This is an annual two-part leadership development programme that seeks to bring together 50 senior leaders from ten ASEAN Member States, from the private and public sectors as well as civil society onto a common platform where they work together to address carefully-selected challenges relevant to the region.

The ASEAN Leaders programme aims to accommodate leaders in the region to build strong connections, share knowledge and develop the cultural intelligence to help them realise the immense potential of the newly-formed ASEAN Community. The participants on the ASEAN Leaders Programme are gathered from different sectors and backgrounds across the region; they will go through an open selection process before being offered a place. The criteria include individuals who are:

  • Exceptional leaders operating at senior, strategic level in their organisation and/or society
  • Able to demonstrate significant influence in their current role
  • Close to the pinnacle of their career with the ambition to achieve even more
  • Passionate about the potential of the ASEAN region and excited about the opportunity provided by the ASEAN Leaders programme.

The programme centres on a compelling leadership challenge that is real, significant, and critically impacts the growth of ASEAN and the success of its people. Senior leaders from the ten countries will address the challenges and find innovative solutions through collaboration. The programme is delivered in two parts in two different locations. The first part of the programme started at the end of June 2016 in Singapore and the second part began in August 2016 in Jakarta.
