Community Building Programme

Our Community Building Programme places community at the centre for developing initiatives that allow ASEAN people to strengthen bonds of solidarity and cooperation, advance their common interests, participate in and benefit from the process of ASEAN’s integration.

The interventions in this Programme manifest in technical assistance for the ASEAN people’s initiatives that are both physical and non-physical such as establishing institutions, creating market access, as well as strengthening institutional systems and frameworks. The Programme will then bring the initiatives into the framework of ASEAN’s development agenda and planning.

The main target recipient of the Community Building Programme is the ASEAN community of all groups and levels that are driven to create home-grown initiatives for strengthening ASEAN’s identity and enhancing ASEAN competitiveness that respect equally shared socio-economic advancements and promote reduction in regional disparities.

The ASEAN Foundation’s flagship programme under the “Community Building” theme is the ASEAN Farmers’ Organisations Support Programme (AFOSP), European Union (EU) and International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) grant for a multi-stakeholder project which aims to improve the livelihoods and food security situation of smallholder farmers and rural producers in ASEAN countries.
