eMpowering Youths Across ASEAN

Where Youth Drive Change, One Community at a Time

Across ASEAN, youth make up over 30% of the population, a vibrant force of creativity, passion, and purpose. They care deeply about the future, not just their own, but that of their communities and the region they call home. When their ideas are heard and their actions supported, young people become powerful agents of change, capable of shaping a more inclusive, resilient, and people-centred ASEAN.

In recognition of this potential, the ASEAN Foundation and Maybank Foundation launched the eMpowering Youths Across ASEAN (eYAA) in 2018, a flagship programme built on the belief that meaningful volunteerism can drive real, lasting impact. At its heart, eYAA provides a platform for young changemakers to lead with the tools, guidance, and opportunity to turn their passion into purpose.

Each year, the programme brings together inspiring youth from all ten ASEAN Member States and connects them with civil society organisations and social enterprises to co-create solutions that meet real community needs. From tackling environmental challenges to uplifting marginalised groups, these youth-led initiatives are grounded in empathy, collaboration, and sustainability. Through its youth volunteers and local partners, eYAA implements community projects in Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Viet Nam, bringing fresh ideas and grassroots innovation directly to where it’s needed most.

Through regional workshops, capacity-building sessions, and immersive fieldwork, participants strengthen their leadership skills, broaden their perspectives, and build lifelong connections across cultures. eYAA also fosters a safe, inclusive space where youth can listen, learn, and grow together, united by a shared mission to serve.

eYAA consistently supports the priorities of the ASEAN Chairmanship, aligning its focus areas and activities with regional aspirations. It also contributes to broader development goals, including the ASEAN Community Vision 2025 and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
