Ilan Asqolani

Ilan Asqolani is a seasoned education professional with a passion for driving positive change in the region. With a strong foundation in English Literature and Linguistics from the University of Indonesia, Ilan furthered his education by completing a Master’s degree in Education from the University of Groningen, Netherlands. 

Ilan’s career is marked by his extensive experience in managing education-related projects with international development organisations, higher education institutions, schools, and the private sectors in Indonesia and across the ASEAN region. As the Head of Programme at the ASEAN Foundation, he leverages his expertise to supervise various initiatives that promote educational excellence and innovation in the 10 ASEAN countries. 

Prior to joining the ASEAN Foundation, he served as a Manager for the SMART Lab project, a three-year project funded by USAID, which focused on improving the capacity of STEM teachers at high schools in Indonesia. This project, implemented in collaboration with Intel Indonesia, New York Hall of Science, and Tuft University, showcased Ilan’s ability to drive meaningful change in education. 

Before he was appointed as the Manager for the SMART Lab project, he was a Research and Community Engagement Coordinator at Sampoerna University, one of the Putera Sampoerna Foundation’s business units, managing research and community development programmes for students and lecturers. He has worked with UNESCO Jakarta, contributing to capacity development initiatives for Education for All in Timor-Leste, and with Junior Achievement, overseeing youth development and entrepreneurship skills improvement programmes in Indonesia. 

In addition to his project management experience, Ilan has taught English at the University of Indonesia, honing his skills as an educator and communicator. Throughout his career, Ilan has demonstrated a commitment to promoting educational excellence and empowering individuals to reach their full potential
