ASEAN Digital Literacy Programme

ASEAN Digital Literacy Programme

The ASEAN Digital Literacy Programme (ASEAN DLP) is a flagship initiative by the ASEAN Foundation, made possible by a generous USD 1.5 million grant from Google.org, to combat misinformation and disinformation across the region. Over two years, the programme trained 1,000 educators and youth leaders across all ten ASEAN Member States, who went on to empower more than 100,000 individuals in their local communities.

Recognising the growing importance of media and information literacy, ASEAN DLP delivered training tailored to the unique needs of each country, fostering critical thinking, cultural understanding, and digital responsibility. The initiative also launched DigitalClassASEAN.org, a multilingual e-learning platform that continues to equip users with the tools to recognise and counter misinformation.

ASEAN DLP’s reach went beyond classrooms. Through the ASEAN Youth Advisory Group, the campaign mobilised over 3,000 people through onsite activities and engaged more than 700,000 online, creating a vibrant youth-led movement for digital resilience.

A key highlight of ADLP’s legacy is the ground-breaking regional study, “One Divide or Many Divides? Underprivileged ASEAN Communities’ Meaningful Digital Literacy and Response to Disinformation.” This research explores the lived experiences of underprivileged communities, shedding light on the nuanced digital divides that shape how they consume and respond to information online.

By the end of the programme in 2024, ASEAN DLP has empowered over 190,000 individuals with essential digital literacy skills, helping to close knowledge gaps and nurture a region of informed, engaged, and resilient digital citizens. S
